MoS Bandi Sanjay hits out at T’gana CM for wearing skull cap for votes

Hyderabad, Nov 6 – Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar made headlines in a sharp open‑air speech on Thursday, vowing he’d cut off his own head rather than wear a skull cap to win votes. The BJP leader took the issue to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Congress candidate Naveen Yadav, both of whom had been seen wearing skull caps during the Jubilee Hills assembly by‑election campaign.
“I’d rather cut my head off than wear a skull cap for votes,” Sanjay told crowds in Borabanda. “I’m an unapologetic Hindu. I won’t fake a namaz just to please voters. Even Muslim leaders like Azharuddin and Owaisi never wore one. CM Reddy and the Congress candidate did it just for votes.” He fired further shots at the people leading the campaign, asking whether the CM could even get Azharuddin or Owaisi to sing for “Ammavaru” to win Hindu votes.
The comments sparked on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), where the minister posted a photo of his roadshow with the caption. The roadshow also saw Sanjay hint at a debate to decide “who developed Hyderabad”.
In a separate gripe, Bandi slammed CM Reddy for not filing cases against former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, saying Telangana is being ripped apart by both ruling and opposition parties. The minister said that, like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana could grow if it had a “double‑engine” government. He also made a bold pledge to hoist the saffron flag on the Charminar to symbolize BJP’s presence in the city.
The BJP then demanded that the Chief Electoral Officer investigate ACP Punjagutta and the Jubilee Hills Returning Officer for revoking the permission the election authorities had earlier granted for the meeting. The BJP cited a history of public meetings in Old City and claimed it needed no extra clearance for its own rallies.
