Olivia Nuzzi was ‘elated’ when RFK Jr. affair story broke, ex-fiance Ryan Lizza writes in latest tell-all
Scandal‑starred reporter Olivia Nuzzi told us she was “elated” after the RFK Jr. affair story broke, and not because of the drama itself but because the Kennedy heir finally stopped “ghosting” her, her former fiancé Ryan Lizza said on Wednesday.
By the time the story hit the headlines, the couple’s relationship was already in trouble. With the Kennedy family winding down his presidential run and in talks with the Trump team, Bobby stepped away from the public eye, leaving Nuzzi on edge and scrambling for answers, Lizza recounted.
Once the story went public, everything shifted, according to Lizza in the fifth part of a series on Substack outlining the collapse of his relationship with Nuzzi, who had left New York Magazine after the alleged affair.
“Three people who either spent time with her or talked to her found that Olivia was in the best mood they’d seen in weeks,” Lizza wrote. “The reason for the high was that she and Bobby were working together again behind the scenes.”
“Before that, Bobby had been ghosting her,” Lizza added. “So Olivia, according to her friends, was thrilled to be back in touch — even if it was just to protect him and embarrass her.”
The former Politico reporter also exposed the chaos behind the scenes in his latest piece. Nuzzi allegedly set up a “war room” with CNN alum Matt Dornic and her agent Rachel Adler to shape the narrative, fight off reporters, and paint Lizza as the “scorned ex.”
Their tactics blended denial, legal threats and increasingly outlandish allegations, including the absurd claim that Lizza had slept with a fabricated nanny, he wrote.
The frenzy intensified as reporters from numerous outlets called with varying versions of the story. Ten, including The Post, declined to publish what Lizza described as Nuzzi’s “lies.”
Kennedy’s security adviser Gavin de Becker added pressure by hovering nearby, a form of “Bond‑villain‑level intimidation,” according to Lizza. “He would occasionally check in on Olivia, according to her friends, just to make sure she remained loyal and was protecting Bobby’s secrets.”
“At one point, Olivia told Tucker Carlson about the details of one of de Becker’s calls to her,” Lizza wrote. “Tucker advised her to fear for her life and offered to send her a shotgun.”
Carlson later hosted Kennedy for dinner, where they discussed a supposed “plot to destroy Bobby.” “Tucker was then telling people, including Olivia, that Bobby was being blackmailed by Israel,” Lizza told us. “In the world of conspiracy theorists, he was the Alex Jones to Bobby’s Oliver Stone.”
“If Bobby just thought it was me, maybe working with Olivia,” Lizza clarified, “but Tucker saw a much larger deep‑state plot aimed at crushing Trump by eliminating Bobby. He saw me only as a tip.”
He closed his newest installment with a cliffhanger: a friend of Nuzzi’s warned, “Olivia talked to Bobby, and he’s making her do something really, really crazy.”
