PM Modi to Launch Gyan Bharatam Portal at Key Conference on India’s Ancient Manuscripts
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to kick off an exciting initiative on Friday, launching the Gyan Bharatam Portal during an international conference focused on reviving India’s rich manuscript heritage. This move aims to bring the country’s ancient knowledge treasures into the digital age, making them easier to preserve and share with the world.
The three-day event, which started on Thursday in New Delhi, carries the theme ‘Reclaiming India’s Knowledge Legacy through Manuscript Heritage’. Experts from around the globe, including top scholars, conservationists, technologists, and policymakers, are gathering to discuss smart ways to protect and promote India’s vast collection of ancient manuscripts. These discussions will spotlight how this heritage can shine in global conversations on traditional knowledge.
At the heart of the conference is the new Gyan Bharatam Portal – a user-friendly digital platform designed to speed up the digitization of manuscripts, ensure their long-term preservation, and open them up for public access. Imagine flipping through rare historical texts from your phone; that’s the goal here.
The event also features a captivating exhibition of rare manuscripts, along with expert talks on key topics like conservation techniques, cutting-edge digitization tools, metadata standards, legal protections, cultural diplomacy, and even decoding ancient scripts. It’s a perfect blend of history and modern tech to safeguard India’s cultural gems.
This conference ties in nicely with PM Modi’s ongoing push for Sanskrit and ancient wisdom. Back on August 9, during World Sanskrit Day, he shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), calling Sanskrit a "timeless source of knowledge and expression" with impacts across various fields. He praised everyone learning and spreading the language, marking the occasion on Shravan Poornima.
In another post, PM Modi highlighted the government’s decade-long efforts to boost Sanskrit in India. These include establishing Central Sanskrit Universities, setting up learning centers, offering grants to scholars, and launching the Gyan Bharatam Mission for manuscript digitization. "This has benefited countless students and researchers," he noted, emphasizing how these steps are breathing new life into the language.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath echoed these views on X, describing Sanskrit as "the expression of India’s soul, the vibration of the sages’ voice, and an eternal source of timeless knowledge." He urged people to preserve, promote, and weave this "nectar-like language" into everyday life on World Sanskrit Day.
With initiatives like the Gyan Bharatam Portal, India is taking big strides to digitize and globalize its manuscript wealth, ensuring ancient knowledge stays alive for future generations. Stay tuned for more updates on this cultural revival.
