Prime Minister Narendra Modi heads to Odisha this Saturday for a big day of launches and groundwork on development projects totaling more than Rs 60,000 crore in Jharsuguda. These initiatives cover key areas like telecom connectivity, railways, higher education, healthcare, skill development, and rural housing, giving a major boost to the region’s growth.

Modi will kick off the event by addressing a large public gathering, highlighting how these projects aim to transform lives and infrastructure.

In telecom, the Prime Minister launches over 97,500 mobile 4G towers built with homegrown Swadeshi technology at a cost of about Rs 37,000 crore. BSNL leads the charge, commissioning more than 92,600 of these sites. A standout part includes over 18,900 4G sites funded by the Digital Bharat Nidhi, which will link up around 26,700 remote villages—especially in border areas and regions hit by left-wing extremism. This move reaches over 20 lakh new subscribers, expanding access to digital services where it’s needed most.

These towers run on solar power, creating India’s biggest network of eco-friendly telecom sites and pushing forward sustainable infrastructure goals.

Shifting to railways, Modi lays the foundation stone for a new rail flyover between Sambalpur and Sarla. He also dedicates key upgrades like the doubling of the Koraput-Baiguda line and the Manabar-Koraput-Gorapur line to the nation. These enhancements speed up freight and passenger travel across Odisha and nearby states, fueling local industries, trade, and economic ties.

Adding to the excitement, Modi flags off the Amrit Bharat Express train from Berhampur to Udhna in Surat. This affordable, comfy service connects states seamlessly, sparking tourism, job creation, and stronger links between vital economic hubs.

Finally, the Prime Minister sets the stage for expanding eight Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Tirupati, Palakkad, Bhilai, Jammu, Dharwad, Jodhpur, Patna, and Indore, with an investment of roughly Rs 11,000 crore. This push strengthens higher education and innovation across India.
