India’s global leadership shines brighter under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, says former diplomat Harsh Vardhan Shringla. In a recent interview, he explained that Modi’s international reputation makes India a key player on the world stage.
Shringla described Modi as a “Vishwamitra,” meaning a wise and respected leader, and emphasized that India follows a “Vishwabandhu” approach—being a friend and supporter to all countries. He highlighted how India’s independent diplomacy allows it to maintain good relations with nations like the US, China, Russia, and others.
He also pointed out the strong personal bond between PM Modi and US President Donald Trump. Events like ‘Howdy Modi’ in Houston and ‘Namaste Trump’ in Ahmedabad showed how popular and influential their relationship is. Even amid trade tensions and tariff discussions, Trump has publicly called Modi a “great Prime Minister” and a “friend.” Shringla believes this friendly rapport will help India and the US find solutions during negotiations.
Discussing India’s international image, Shringla said Modi’s presence is vital at major global forums like G7, BRICS, and SCO. His leadership shapes India’s role in addressing worldwide issues, especially in uncertain times. Under Modi, India’s progress in digital payments, direct benefits to citizens, and self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat) showcase the country’s rising influence.
Shringla also noted that India’s relationships with big powers like the US, China, and Russia are strong and unique. India aims to strengthen these ties without letting any disagreements overshadow cooperation. He highlighted India’s active participation in technology and defense sectors and the significant contribution of Indian-Americans to the US’s growth.
Overall, under Modi’s leadership, India is carving out a powerful and respected place in global politics, maintaining friendly relations with major nations while advancing its own national interests.
