Egypt, Malaysia discuss Gaza aid, reconstruction amid ceasefire

Cairo, Oct. 19 – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi and Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim talked on the phone today about helping rebuild Gaza and moving forward on the Palestinian issue, even as a fragile ceasefire with Israel remains in place.

The call followed the recent summit in Sharm el‑Sheikh, where Egypt and its partners reviewed the first phase of the ceasefire plan. President Sisi said the meeting confirmed Egypt’s plans to work closely with mediators to keep the ceasefire alive and to launch a “serious political track” toward an independent Palestinian state, in line with international law. He also reaffirmed Egypt’s intent to host an international conference for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, hoping Malaysia will cooperate fully.

Prime Minister Anwar expressed Malaysia’s readiness to join reconstruction efforts and deliver humanitarian aid, all in close coordination with Egypt. He reiterated full support for Egypt’s mission to end the war.

The Gaza ceasefire, effective since Oct. 10, came after two years of fighting between Israel and Hamas. According to Gaza health authorities, 68,116 Palestinians have died and 170,200 have been injured since the war began on Oct. 7. While violence has eased, 27 Gazans have been killed and 143 wounded since Oct. 11, the latest update said.
