Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut fired sharp criticism at the Mahayuti government on Wednesday, blaming it for failing to support farmers hit hard by heavy rains and flooding in Maharashtra’s Marathwada region. He highlighted that around 40 lakh farmers have lost everything—from crops and livestock to homes—due to the disaster.
Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, Raut painted a grim picture of the damage. “The entire Marathwada region, with its 11 districts, has faced massive destruction,” he said. “About 70 lakh acres of agricultural land have been washed away.” Raut questioned the government’s readiness to help, pointing to its whopping Rs 10 lakh crore debt. “Where is the government? How will they extend any aid?” he asked.
Raut also announced that Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray plans to visit the flood-hit areas on Thursday to assess the situation firsthand. Thackeray has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide Rs 10,000 crore in immediate relief, warning that Marathwada could be “completely destroyed” without it. But Raut slammed Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s camp for turning aid into politics. “They’re pasting their party photos and symbols on relief packets,” he said. “This isn’t right—Uddhav Thackeray will see for himself and then speak out.”
The heavy rainfall has triggered widespread flooding across Maharashtra districts, leading to urgent rescue efforts. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams rushed into action in Beed, Dharashiv, and Solapur since Monday night, pulling people to safety and distributing essentials.
On the government side, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis headed to Darfal village in Solapur Wednesday to check the flood damage up close. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also visited affected spots in Solapur, where he inspected ruined crops and chatted with farmers. Pawar urged local officials to speed up relief and support for those battered by the Maharashtra floods.
In response to the heavy rains between June and August this year, the Maharashtra government rolled out a Rs 1,339 crore aid package for farmers dealing with crop losses, sources confirmed. As recovery efforts continue in the Marathwada flooding zones, calls grow louder for more comprehensive help to rebuild lives and livelihoods.
