Heavy Rains Cause Chaos in Rajasthan: CM Calls for Swift Relief Measures
Rajasthan is facing severe flooding due to heavy rains, causing widespread trouble for residents. In response, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has directed officials and lawmakers to work swiftly to help those affected.
During a recent assembly session, the CM emphasized the importance of quick action. He asked all local Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to conduct three-day thorough inspections of their areas from September 5 to 7. Additionally, ministers and secretaries have been instructed to spend at least two days in the rain-hit districts to personally oversee relief efforts.
“Our government stands with the people. Our goal is to address their problems quickly and sensitively,” Sharma said. He also mentioned that while immediate relief efforts are underway, the state is working on a long-term plan to prevent future flooding and waterlogging issues.
The CM pointed out that Rajasthan has received 56 percent more rainfall than usual from June 1 to September 1. This heavy rain has caused serious flooding, especially in low-lying areas. He urged MLAs to coordinate with district officials to speed up rescue operations, relocate affected families, and distribute essential supplies like food, drinking water, medicines, and clothing.
Sharma stressed the need for constant communication between leaders and officials. He asked them to hold regular meetings with district collectors and to ensure the availability of relief items. He also directed the quick setup of safe temporary shelters for women, children, elderly people, and persons with disabilities.
In addition, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of maintaining updated information. He encouraged lawmakers to share timely updates with the media and the public, clear rumors, and actively use social media to share helpline numbers and relief information.
Health and sanitation are top priorities during this crisis. Sharma instructed deploying medical teams at relief camps, vaccinating animals, and chlorinating drinking water sources to prevent disease outbreaks. He also emphasized raising awareness about food hygiene and safe drinking water to avoid illnesses caused by contaminated water.
Looking ahead, Sharma reassured that the government is not just focusing on immediate help but also working on long-term flood management plans. These efforts aim to provide lasting solutions to Rajasthan’s recurring flooding problems.
