Delhi Govt Launches Rs 6,000 Monthly Aid for Poor People with Disabilities
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced a big boost for people with disabilities on Tuesday. The government will now provide Rs 6,000 every month to eligible poor individuals who need high levels of support. This disability financial assistance scheme aims to make life easier for them and their families.
The launch couldn’t be more special—Union Home Minister Amit Shah will kick it off on Wednesday, which happens to be Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. “This is a step towards dignity and self-reliance for our brothers and sisters with disabilities,” CM Gupta said in an official statement.
Under this new scheme, the money goes straight to beneficiaries’ Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. It covers key expenses like hiring caregivers, physiotherapy sessions, speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychological counselling, and assistive devices. No more struggling to afford these essentials!
The Delhi Cabinet already greenlit the plan in its last meeting. But who qualifies? CM Gupta explained the eligibility criteria clearly. You need at least 40% disability, certified as “High Support Needs” with a score of 60-100 from the District-level Assessment Board. Plus, you’ve got to be a Delhi resident for five years, your family’s annual income must stay below Rs 1 lakh, and Aadhaar verification is a must.
Applying is straightforward too. Eligible folks can register online via the e-District portal. Once submitted, the District Social Welfare Officer processes it, and the Assessment Board verifies everything.
CM Gupta stressed that this isn’t just about money—it’s about real change. “Persons with disabilities face huge economic and social hurdles. This scheme eases the burden of care and treatment costs, helping them join society more actively and live independently,” she added.
This initiative from the Department of Social Welfare shows Delhi’s commitment to inclusive support for people with disabilities. If you or someone you know qualifies, head to the e-District portal to apply soon!
