Manipur dengue on rise: 2,343 positive cases with one death reported in 2025

Imphal, October 13 – Dengue fever is on the rise in Manipur, with 2,343 people now confirmed infected this year. The state health department said the latest surge includes 11 new cases reported on Monday, and a patient in Bishnupur district has died of the disease.

Health officials say this year’s cases have jumped 73 % compared with the same period last year. Out of 5,630 tests conducted from January 1 to October 12, 2,343 came back positive—a 990‑case increase over the 1,353 numbers seen in 2024.

Imphal West leads the state with 1,686 cases, followed by Imphal East (365), Bishnupur (69), Thoubal (63), Senapati (45) and Kakching (37). The high numbers in Imphal West and East are tied to the densely populated Imphal Valley, while Senapati and Kakching in the hills also report cases. The single death so far came from Bishnupur.

Officials warn that the growing numbers show how quickly dengue can spread across both valley and hill districts. Long monsoon rains have left behind standing water, turning places into perfect breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes – the main carrier of dengue fever.

In response, the Health and Family Welfare Department has ramped up vector‑control efforts. Fogging operations are underway, and public‑awareness campaigns run through local media and community outreach. The Urban Development Department urges everyone to keep their surroundings clean, remove stagnant water, and use mosquito repellents or nets.

If you notice high fever, intense body aches, and rash – common signs of dengue – seek medical help right away. Early treatment can help avoid serious complications.
