A 41‑year‑old Chinese‑American man was arrested by U.S. Marshals on Christmas Eve after police tracked him down to a motel in Schodack, just south of Albany. Prosecutors say he is accused of murdering his 76‑year‑old mother, Zhu Hou, during a family argument on December 18 in her Lower East Side apartment.
Hou allegedly struck his mother with a blunt object and fled home after police arrived. His body was found the next day, December 19, in the hallway of her seventh‑floor unit, next to a bloodied skateboard. Her oldest son called 9‑1‑1 after noticing the scene.
The Marshals’ release reads: “[Wei] Hou is a naturalized US citizen who was born in China.” It added that Hou had a long criminal history across multiple states and was under the supervision of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision for a felony narcotics conviction at the time of his arrest.
State court records show Hou received up to two years in prison for a third‑degree possession of a controlled substance charge, but was released on October 14 after serving only four months.
Hou is facing second‑degree murder charges. During the Christmas Eve standoff, he threatened to kill himself. He sustained unspecified injuries during the arrest but was expected to be turned over to the NYPD later that Wednesday.
Police are directing all post‑arrest questions to the U.S. Marshals Service.
