Mumbai’s rising star Kaveri Kapur, daughter of acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, is speaking out on the hot-button issue of nepotism in Bollywood. In a candid chat with , she shared her thoughts on the nepotism debate that’s been raging in the Indian film industry, showing empathy for star kids who face constant backlash.
Kaveri explained that while she gets the frustration around unequal opportunities, she doesn’t think it’s right to hate on people chasing their dreams. “Most folks I’m close to—except my parents—aren’t even actors, so they don’t have strong views on nepotism,” she said. “But I totally understand why people feel frustrated. There’s a huge gap in opportunities, and you can’t ignore that. Still, it’s not fair to send hate to someone just following their passion.”
She went on to add, “If you’re passionate, ready to grind hard, and have the resources to chase your dream, why not go for it? I get the anger—it’s valid. But maybe if people put themselves in the shoes of those getting slammed for nepotism, they’d see both sides. Imagine dreaming of acting your whole life and finally getting a shot—who’d say no? It’s not a black-and-white issue, but I really feel for those targeted in the nepotism controversy.”
Tackling another big myth about being a Bollywood star kid, Kaveri busted the idea that everything comes easy. Sure, getting that initial break might be simpler with family connections, but building a lasting career? That boils down to pure talent and hard work. “In the end, your skills and effort are what matter most,” she emphasized.
On the work front, Kaveri kicked off her acting journey with Kunal Kohli’s “Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story,” starring opposite Vardhan Puri. Now, excitement is building for her next big move—a collaboration with dad Shekhar Kapur in the highly awaited “Masoom 2” sequel. Fans can’t wait to see what this dynamic duo brings to the screen!
