FM Nirmala Sitharaman to inaugurate Kautilya Economic Conclave 2025 on October 3

India’s top leaders are gearing up to kick off a major economic gathering in New Delhi. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will open the fourth Kautilya Economic Conclave, or KEC 2025, on October 3. The event runs from October 3 to 5 at the Taj Palace hotel, focusing on ways to build prosperity amid global challenges.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will wrap things up on October 5, sharing insights on India’s foreign policy and economic strategies in turbulent times. This year’s theme, “Seeking Prosperity in Turbulent Times,” hits close to home for India as it pushes for strong growth while handling geopolitical shifts and economic uncertainties.

Expect lively discussions on key issues like Asia’s rise as a global growth engine, the changing role of BRICS nations, financial stability, and fresh ideas for industrial policies. One standout session features former Banque de France Governor Jean-Claude Trichet chatting with Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra about the tough job of central banking today.

The lineup boasts international heavyweights, including former Indonesian Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, Japanese politician Taro Kono, Tsinghua University’s Bai Chong-En, UK House of Lords member Lord Karan Bilimoria, London School of Economics Dean Andres Velasco, LSE Professor Lord Nick Stern, and ex-Banque de France Deputy Governor Jean-Pierre Landau.

On the legal front, a panel led by former Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Shaktikanta Das will dive into how legal reforms can boost growth and uphold the rule of law. Guests include LSE President Larry Kramer and Senior Advocate Harish Salve, India’s former Solicitor General.

Don’t miss the special luncheon on emerging tech in communications, hosted by Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. It gathers experts on AI and digital infrastructure to explore future innovations.

The conclave ends with a big plenary on global macroeconomic prudence, chaired by Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr. P K Mishra. Top policymakers and economists will assess the world economy’s health and push for better financial governance reforms.

With 75 participants from over 30 countries, KEC 2025 amps up its global reach. Sessions also tackle universal healthcare, youth jobs, urbanization, trade ties, regional integration, and the upsides and risks of new technologies. Networking breaks and interactive formats keep the talks candid and focused on real solutions.

Organized by the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG) under President N K Singh, in partnership with the Ministry of Finance, this invite-only event builds on past successes. The 2022 debut, “Redefining the Future,” drew folks from 21 countries to debate tech, climate, and fiscal policies, featuring the first Arun Jaitley Memorial Lecture.

In 2023, “Navigating a World on Fire” zeroed in on reforming multilateral development banks, climate finance, and global tensions. Last year’s “The Indian Era” explored green shifts, Asia’s ascent, and multilateralism’s future. Check out full past discussions on the IEG website—KEC has become a go-to spot for straightforward, cross-border economic talks.
