‘Teach Congress a lesson, BCs of Telangana must rise’: BJP MP K Laxman on 42% reservation stay

In Hyderabad today, BJP MP K Laxman called on all backward communities in Telangana to rally against the Congress government. He said voters must “teach Congress a lesson” after the Telangana High Court paused the state order that set 42 percent of local‑body seats for Backward Classes (BCs).
Laxman slammed the Congress for not truly implementing the 42 percent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in local bodies. He claimed the party is using the issue to stir BC sentiments, hinting that its motives are tied to the upcoming Bihar elections. “They’re playing a drama with BCs while all communities back the BJP and PM Modi,” the MP said.
BRS leader V Srinivas Goud also decried the Congress as treating Telangana as a political laboratory. He urged the government to add BCs to the new reservation schedule if it wants to give them the promised seats.
Congress MP Anil Kumar Yadav said the government is waiting for a court ruling that could favor the party. He highlighted that the legal battle has been ongoing for generations, and hoped the court would side with Congress.
The Telangana High Court earlier granted a stay on the 2025 notification that would have made 42 percent of local‑body seats reserved for BCs. The court is now giving the state government four weeks to submit a counter‑affidavit, while the petitioner has two weeks to respond. Lawyers say all parties must submit the counter‑affidavit within 15 days.
In August, the Telangana assembly passed the Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Municipalities (Amendment) Bill, 2025, to streamline the 42 percent reservation for BCs in local governance. The decision now sits on the High Court’s bench, and all eyes are on the next legal move.
