In a major win for security forces, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police teamed up for a sharp intelligence operation in Chandigarh’s Fazilka sector. They seized a whopping haul of 16 pistols, along with 38 magazines and 1,847 rounds of ammunition, and nabbed two smugglers. This bust happened just hours after an even bigger catch in the same area, where another joint raid recovered 27 pistols, 54 magazines, and 470 rounds from a suspect.
The latest action kicked off when BSF’s intelligence wing got a tip about smugglers trying to sneak arms across the border near Theh Kalandar village. Working closely with Fazilka’s Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), the teams laid a trap and struck gold. They not only grabbed the weapons and a motorcycle used in the smuggling but also arrested the two men involved. Officials say this move has smashed a bigger Pakistan-backed narco-terror plot, keeping potential threats to India’s national security at bay.
Earlier that day, BSF and police set up an ambush near Mahar Khiwa Mansa village. After hours of waiting in the dark, they spotted suspicious activity around dawn. The team pounced, catching one smuggler red-handed with a sack full of the 27 pistols and ammo. Under tough questioning, he spilled details that led to his partner’s arrest from the same village. The two suspects hail from Teja Rohella and Mahar Jamsher villages.
Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav shared that early probes point to these arms coming straight from Pakistan, routed through a foreign network. The smugglers were acting on orders from overseas handlers to supply the weapons to local criminal gangs. This double blow highlights how coordinated efforts between BSF and Punjab Police are cracking down on arms smuggling and terror links along the border.
