A police officer in the Indian state of Telangana died by suicide last week.
Special Branch officer Satyanarayana, 54, was found hanged at his home in Suryapet on October 11. Police say he may have taken his life because of health problems. The case was filed as a crime and investigators are looking into the circumstances.
At the same time, news of another tragic death has resurfaced. Shilpa, a 27‑year‑old software engineer from Bengaluru, was discovered hanging in her Suddaguntepalya house on August 29. Her parents have claimed that Shilpa’s death was a result of relentless dowry demands from her husband Praveen and his family. Police have opened a case on the allegations and have taken Praveen into custody.
Both incidents highlight how mental health pressures and family pressures can lead to extreme outcomes. Investigators in Telangana are still gathering details, while the Bengaluru case is progressing with an arrest and further probes expected.
