Odisha Masters: Unnati, Tasnim and Rounak enter semis

Cuttack, Dec 12 (LatestNewsX) – The Odisha Masters saw Unnati Hooda, Tasnim Mir, Isharani Baruah, Kiran George and Rounak Chouhan all keep their streaks alive by reaching the finals section on Friday.

In men’s singles, second‑seeded Kiran George dominated Rithvik Sanjeevi with a 21‑11, 21‑17 victory in just 33 minutes and will now take on Rounak Chouhan. Chouhan stayed in form, pulling off an upset over seventh‑seeded compatriot Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian with a tight 21‑19, 22‑20 win that lasted 41 minutes. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Muhamad Yusuf bested top seed Tharun Mannepalli 21‑9, 22‑20 in 49 minutes.

The women’s singles quarter‑finals delivered surprises too. Tanya Hemanth knocked out third‑seeded Tanvi Sharma, a silver medallist at the World Junior Championships, 21‑18, 21‑17 in 39 minutes. She will now face fellow Indian Isharani Baruah, who’s been firing on all cylinders this week. Baruah opened her campaign with a major upset over second‑seeded Pornpicha Choeikeewong and advanced automatically after a walkover; she then edged sixth‑seeded Anmol Kharb 21‑16, 21‑14 in 41 minutes.

Unnati Hooda, the top seed, continued her dominance with a 21‑16, 21‑15 win over Anupama Upadhyaya to secure a spot in the semi‑finals. Tasnim Mir also delivered a strong performance, easing past seventh‑seeded Tung Ciou‑Tong from Chinese Taipei to complete an all‑Indian semi‑final lineup in women’s singles, paving the way for multiple medals for India.

In women’s doubles, Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gautam ran away with the sixth seeds Kavipriya Selvam and Simran Singhi 21‑12, 21‑14 to earn a berth in the last four. However, the men’s doubles pairings Bhargav Ram Arigela/Viswa Tej Gobburu and Pruthvi Krishnamurthy/Sai Pratheek were stopped by their opponents.

Mixed doubles saw Sathwik Reddy Kanapuram and Reshika Uthayasooryan advance confidently with a 21‑15, 21‑19 win over Indonesia’s Nawaf Khoiriyansyah and Nahya Muhyifa in 38 minutes. The fourth‑seeded team of Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh, on the other hand, fell to Thailand’s Tanadon Punpanich and Fungfa Korpthammakit 21‑7, 21‑8.
