Washington, Oct 20 – Federal leaders and lawmakers from both parties shared Diwali wishes on social media, underscoring the holiday’s message of light beating dark.
On Monday, FBI Director Kash Patel posted a bright greeting on X: “Happy Diwali—celebrating the Festival of Lights around the world, as good triumphs over evil. A very Happy Diwali to all.” Patel, the first Indian‑American to head the FBI, made his oath earlier this year with his hand on a copy of the Bhagavad Gita, a historic moment for the U.S. Indian‑American community.
In his post, Patel noted that Diwali is a key festival for Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists. The celebration, marked by lamps, sweets and family time, reminds people everywhere that light wins over darkness. Millions in the U.S. and abroad enjoy the festivities, especially in areas with a large Indian diaspora.
Republican candidates and officials also joined the conversation. Ohio’s GOP gubernatorial hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy tweeted, “Happy Diwali! May the light prevail over darkness.” Texas Governor Greg Abbott hosted a Diwali dinner at his Austin residence last weekend. The event drew India’s Consul General in Houston, DC Manjunath. The Consulate posted, “Diwali 2025 celebrations at the Governor’s Mansion in Austin, Texas! Heartfelt thanks to Governor @GregAbbott_TX for continuing this beautiful tradition of celebrating Diwali with the Indo‑American community, spreading the spirit of light, unity, and togetherness.”
Both parties’ lawmakers—Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna, Republican Rep. Pete Sessions, Republican Brian Fitzpatrick, and Democrat Suzan DelBene—shared their own Diwali greetings and joined community celebrations.
The holiday—known globally as the Festival of Lights—brings people of different faiths together in a message of hope and unity, reminding us all that good wins in the end.
