Looking forward to host President Putin next month: PM Modi (Ld)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Russia’s top aide, Nikolai Patrushev, in New Delhi and promised to host President Vladimir Putin in India next month.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, focused on deepening maritime ties, including shipbuilding, skill development and the blue‑economy. Modi posted a brief note on X: “Pleased to meet Nikolai Patrushev, President’s aide and Chairman of Russia’s Maritime Board. We talked about new cooperation in connectivity, shipbuilding and the blue economy.”

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi sent warm greetings to President Putin and looked forward to the 23rd India‑Russia Annual Summit, which is set for early December. The Kremlin aide helped discuss the summit’s arrangements and confirmed Russia’s intent to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Patrushev also paid respects to the Indian Armed Forces at the National War Memorial and toured the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya museum before signing the guest book.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, who is in Moscow for the SCO Heads of Government meeting, met with President Putin and other SCO leaders to review the annual India‑Russia Summit, which marks 25 years of the Strategic Partnership Declaration. Jaishankar’s counterpart, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, emphasized a shared commitment to a just, multipolar world and coordinated cooperation through the UN, SCO, BRICS and G20.

Modi last spoke with Putin over the phone last month to thank him on his birthday and confirm India’s ongoing strategic partnership. The two leaders also met in September at the SCO Summit in Tianjin, where they reaffirmed support for deeper ties and discussed global issues, including the Ukraine situation.

Modi told reporters that 1.4 million Indians are “eagerly waiting” for President Putin’s arrival. “This is the definition of our deep, ‘special and privileged strategic partnership,’” he said.

All eyes will now turn to New Delhi as India prepares to welcome one of its most important foreign partners for the upcoming summit.
