In Agartala on Nov. 6, Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha warned that the state cannot grow unless its tribal (Janajati) communities get the support they need. He highlighted that the BJP government has earmarked a little over 40 % of the 2025‑26 budget for areas inhabited by tribes.

During the ceremony in Dhalai district, Saha opened a new kit‑distribution event for skilled Reang tribal candidates and inaugurated several local projects. Among the highlights was the delivery of six autorickshaws to young people under the Swabalamban Yojana—a scheme that subsidises each vehicle with a ₹1 lakh cash grant.

The chief minister also turned the key on fresh buildings for Chawmanu Class‑12 school, a new fire station, and an office for the Executive Engineer, Research and Development Department. A wayside amenity in Manu was opened as well.

“Through the PM Kaushalya Yojana and the Mukhyamantri Dakkhata Yojana, we’re training Reang tribal people in market‑ready skills,” Saha said. He recalled that during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit last year, the government built houses and installed water systems in Reang settlement camps.

Saha underlined that skill development is a way to produce sustainable jobs. “It isn’t enough to hand out jobs; we must give the skills that will keep those jobs,” he added. He cited the success of the Skill Development department and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support.

The chief minister pointed out that for 23 years no political party had addressed the Reang people’s concerns. Since the BJP took office in 2018, the state has resolved their issues on humanitarian grounds. “After a series of talks, the quadripartite agreement was signed on Jan. 16, 2020, between the Centre, Tripura, Mizoram and the Reang community. In 12 locations across Tripura, we moved the Reang people into permanent homes,” Saha explained. The state handed out toolkits to 895 people and issued 200 driving licences, spending ₹1.45 crore.

Under the Tripura Skill and Entrepreneurship Policy 2024, the state is training about 35,000 new candidates in AI, renewable energy, IT services and the hospital sector. Saha noted that Tripura already sends skilled workers to Japan; five youths have gone and four more are ready to travel. “Around 60 Tripllectians are studying Japanese now. When the opposition says we’re not creating jobs, I want them to listen to these numbers instead of spreading negativity,” he said.

The state’s 2024‑25 budget totals ₹27,000 crore, with ₹6,645 crore (about 39 %) earmarked for Janajati areas. In the 2025‑26 budget, the government will keep more than 40 % of the spend for education, sports, medical and other needs in those regions. “External aid funds are also flowing in for Janajati development. Without these areas, Tripura’s growth stalls,” Saha concluded.

Key attendees included Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, MLA Sambhu Lal Chakma, Secretary Kiran Gitte, Dhalai District Magistrate Vivek H. B., and Skill Development Director Pradeep K. The event underscored the government’s promise to lift tribal communities and drive inclusive growth in Tripura.
