New Delhi, Dec. 27 (IANS) – The National Consumer Helpline (NCH) announced that it has refunded a total of Rs 45 crore during the period from April 25 to December 26, 2025, after handling 67,265 consumer complaints across 31 different sectors.
The e‑commerce industry led the numbers, with 39,965 grievances resulting in refunds of Rs 32 crore. The travel and tourism sector followed, accounting for 4,050 complaints and a payout of Rs 3.5 crore.
NCH, a flagship programme of the Department of Consumer Affairs, continues to offer fast, pre‑litigation resolution of consumer disputes. Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, the helpline provides a low‑cost, amicable way to settle grievances, thereby easing the burden on Consumer Commissions, the ministry said.
The ministry highlighted that e‑commerce refund complaints have come from across the country, reaching even the most remote areas—underscoring the helpline’s nationwide reach and effectiveness.
More than 85 percent of the total refunds were issued in the top five sectors, including agency services, electronic products, and airlines.
“Expanding our network of convergence partners has significantly enhanced our capacity to resolve consumer grievances,” the ministry added. “This development reflects strong engagement from stakeholders and reaffirms their commitment to consumer welfare.”
The helpline is a single point of contact for consumers nationwide. Complaints can be filed in 17 languages by calling the toll‑free number 1915, the ministry noted.
