NDA moving forward with goal of making Bihar developed state: Chirag Paswan

Bihar’s Political Buzz: NDA Pushes for Development, Allies Eye Seat Shares Ahead of Elections

In Patna, Bihar, Union Minister Chirag Paswan, the national president of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), shared some strong words on Sunday. He highlighted how the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is charging ahead to transform Bihar into a developed state. Paswan didn’t hold back on the opposition either, accusing them of stirring confusion over issues like the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the Constitution.

"After Prime Minister Narendra Modi took oath for his third term, we’ve rolled out tons of development projects on the ground," Paswan told reporters. "But the opposition ignores all that and just tries to muddle people’s minds with SIR and Constitution debates. That’s their mindset, and it’s held Bihar back. On the flip side, all NDA parties are united with positive vibes, aiming to build a stronger Bihar."

Paswan’s comments come as Bihar gears up for its assembly elections, likely in October or November, though the Election Commission of India hasn’t announced dates yet. The NDA, made up of BJP, JD(U), and LJP(RV), wants to keep its grip on power under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Meanwhile, the opposition INDIA bloc—led by RJD, Congress, and left parties—is pushing hard to topple them.

Jitan Ram Manjhi Presses for 20 Seats: A ‘Do or Die’ Moment for HAM

Adding to the pre-election drama, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, founder of Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), doubled down on his demand for 20 seats in the Bihar assembly polls. As a key NDA ally, Manjhi stressed it’s a make-or-break situation for his party if they don’t get enough seats to shine in the Vidhan Sabha.

"We haven’t fixed a specific target, but it’s true—this is do-or-die for us," Manjhi said to reporters. "We’re asking the NDA to give us enough seats so HAM can earn proper recognition in the assembly. Our workers and the common people want seats that protect our dignity."

Back on September 3, the former Bihar Chief Minister had made a similar plea. "If the NDA truly supports us and wants to help our party grow, they should allocate at least 20 seats in the Bihar legislative assembly election," he told then.

Bihar Assembly Breakdown: NDA’s Edge Over INDIA Bloc

Right now, Bihar’s 243-member assembly gives the NDA a solid majority with 131 seats. BJP leads with 80 MLAs, followed by JD(U) with 45, HAM(S) with 4, and support from 2 Independents.

The opposition INDIA bloc holds 111 seats, with RJD topping the list at 77 MLAs, Congress at 19, CPI(ML) at 11, CPI(M) at 2, and CPI at 2.

As Bihar elections 2024 heat up, keep an eye on how NDA manages its alliances and seat-sharing talks. Development promises and political jostling could shape the state’s future—who will come out on top?
