Union MoS Savitri Thakur visits flood-hit Himachal, reviews progress of relief work

Union Minister Savitri Thakur Visits Himachal Pradesh to Support Flood and Landslide Victims

In a heartfelt effort to aid families reeling from natural disasters in Himachal Pradesh, Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur visited the state on Saturday. She met with affected families, heard their stories of loss, and checked on the ongoing relief work amid floods, landslides, and cloudbursts that have devastated the region.

Thakur focused her visit on the scenic yet battered Kullu-Manali route, stopping at key spots like Vaishno Mata Temple, Sabzi Mandi in Bandrol, Raison, Dohlu Nala, Fozal Nala, Duada Vihal, Jatehar Vihal in Patlikuhal, Nalsu Nala, Manalsu Nala, Solang, Palchang, Samahan, Bahang, and areas along the 14th to 17th Mile on the Beas River banks. These places saw massive damage to roads from heavy rains and landslides, cutting off vital connectivity.

Thanks to quick action from the Central Government and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), teams are working round-the-clock to repair and rebuild the damaged roads. During her tour, Thakur chatted with families who lost homes and livelihoods, listened to their worries, and reviewed how relief and rehabilitation efforts are progressing.

This comes just after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Himachal Pradesh last week. PM Modi took an aerial survey of the flood and landslide-hit areas, then held a key meeting in Kangra to assess the damage and relief measures. He announced a whopping Rs 1,500 crore relief package to help the state recover from the natural disasters.

PM Modi also released advance funds from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the second instalment of PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi to provide immediate support. In a touching gesture, he met families affected by the floods and landslides, offered condolences to those who lost loved ones, and promised ex-gratia payments—Rs 2 lakh each to families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the seriously injured.

These steps show the government’s commitment to standing by Himachal Pradesh as it bounces back from the recent floods and landslides. Relief efforts continue to focus on rebuilding infrastructure and supporting affected communities.
