Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami kicked off a major road upgrade project on Thursday, virtually inaugurating the reconstruction and widening of the Gadarpur-Dineshpur-Matkota-Haldwani motor road in Udham Singh Nagar district. Funded by the Central Road Infrastructure Fund, this Rs 55 crore initiative will also strengthen the Manunagar-Gadarpur-Dineshpur-Matkota-Haldwani route.

Dhami called the project a game-changer for the Terai region. Once finished, it will make travel smoother and spark growth in trade, industry, and tourism, giving the local economy a real boost. The upgraded road will link Gadarpur, Dineshpur, Matkota, and Chhatarpur directly to Bilaspur in Uttar Pradesh.

“This will help nearly two lakh people, including residents, traders, and factory workers, by offering safer and easier connections,” Dhami said. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for driving Uttarakhand’s progress toward better development and prosperity.

From bustling cities to remote mountain villages, the state is ramping up infrastructure in roads, education, healthcare, and drinking water. Road networks have improved a lot, and despite the challenging hilly terrain and frequent natural disasters that damage roads, teams fix them quickly on a priority basis.

Under Modi’s guidance, Dhami noted, the government is building extensive road systems even in border areas. The “double-engine” setup—state and central governments working together—tackles long-delayed projects head-on, enhances connectivity, and pushes forward comprehensive growth through targeted schemes.

Dhami also highlighted other key efforts, like restarting the Jamrani Dam Multipurpose Project to meet drinking water and irrigation needs in the Terai region. Plus, setting up an Industrial Smart City in Khurpia is speeding up economic expansion there.

At the same time, the government focuses on protecting Uttarakhand’s rich cultural heritage. They’re reviving and beautifying ancient temples in Kedarkhand, with similar work underway for those in Manaskhand. ()
