Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot slammed the RSS for holding a Shastra Poojan event at Rajasthan University, calling it outright objectionable. He raised serious concerns about turning an educational hub like Rajasthan University into a stage for political activities.
Gehlot pointed to clashes during the event, where NSUI workers protested and faced police force. “RSS members even took matters into their own hands and attacked the NSUI protesters,” he said. This, he argued, signals the end of rule of law in Rajasthan, with the RSS acting like an unchecked power outside the constitution.
The whole incident unfolded right in front of police, highlighting their bias, Gehlot added. “It looks like the police are bending to RSS pressure. How can they keep law and order if this continues?” he asked.
Congress leader Sachin Pilot echoed the criticism, labeling the police response as “highly condemnable.” He sent well-wishes to the injured NSUI workers for a quick recovery and stressed that schools and universities must stay free from politics.
Opposition MLA Tika Ram Jully, the Leader of Opposition, also condemned the police lathi charge, vehicle damage, and arrests of NSUI leaders. He urged Rajasthan’s Chief Minister to release them immediately. “The government-backed police attacked NSUI protesters at Rajasthan University over BJP and RSS’s hate politics, wrecked their vehicles, and locked them up—this is unacceptable,” Jully said. “Don’t turn these temples of learning into political battlegrounds.”
