Pandit Deendayal Seva Pratishthan stands as true symbol of integral humanism and ‘Antyodaya’: Maha CM

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis praised Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader Deendayal Upadhyay on Monday for spending his life lifting the poor, deprived, and marginalized people into society’s mainstream. He focused on Upadhyay’s ideas of Integral Humanism and Antyodaya, which aim for the all-around growth of the weakest sections.
Speaking at the launch of Deendayal Upadhyay Jayanti celebrations in Yavatmal, organized by the Deendayal Seva Pratishthan, Fadnavis called the group a key force in spreading these principles nationwide. Started about 25 years ago right there in Yavatmal, the Pratishthan has grown massively, like a giant banyan tree. It helps women from families hit hard by farmer suicides and supports the highly disadvantaged Pardhi tribal community.
Fadnavis said the Pratishthan truly lives out Upadhyay’s vision by driving real social change. He shared how Upadhyay faced tough challenges but pushed through to get an education. Even when a government job came his way, Upadhyay turned it down to focus on serving others. After joining the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), he became a full-time activist. When the Bharatiya Jan Sangh formed, he took on big roles, like leading Uttar Pradesh, serving as All-India General Secretary, and eventually becoming National President. All the while, he kept things simple and selfless.
Back in Upadhyay’s era, capitalism and communism ruled global thinking, Fadnavis noted. But Upadhyay offered a fresh path—India’s own way to transform society and the economy. At the heart of Integral Humanism is Antyodaya, the idea that real progress means raising up the person at the very end of the line. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has put this into action with programs for housing, toilets, LPG connections, electricity, and jobs for the poor. Over the last decade, these efforts have pulled 25 crore Indians out of poverty and boosted the country from the 11th to the 4th largest economy worldwide.
The Chief Minister also spotlighted the Pratishthan’s push into natural farming, inspired by Upadhyay’s ideals. This approach cuts costs by ditching chemical fertilizers and pesticides while boosting soil health. Maharashtra aims to cover 25 lakh hectares with natural farming, and they’ve already hit 13 lakh hectares. On top of that, the state is rolling out the Nanaji Deshmukh Krishi Samruddhi Yojana and turning primary cooperatives into versatile hubs to help farmers thrive.
To boost women, Fadnavis highlighted the Lakhpati Didi scheme, which targets making one crore women in Maharashtra financially self-reliant. “Women hold families together,” he said. “Empowering them lifts everyone up.”
The Pratishthan has made huge strides with the Pardhi community, once labeled a “criminal tribe” and facing deep stigma. Through education, healthcare, and job programs, they’re sparking real change. Fadnavis wrapped up by saying Upadhyay never chased fame or awards—his ideas endure. Even after his tragic assassination, his philosophy spread far and wide. Today, PM Modi is taking it global.
