Afghanistan Coach Jonathan Trott Tips India as Top Contenders in T20 Asia Cup
Dubai, UAE: The Afghanistan men’s cricket team head coach Jonathan Trott has given a big thumbs up to the Indian cricket team, calling them one of the top favorites in the ongoing T20 Asia Cup. Trott, who knows a thing or two about strong sides, shared his thoughts while chatting with .
"Every team India fields these days looks super solid," Trott said. "We’ve seen them dominate in the Asia Cup under these conditions, just like they did in the Champions Trophy 50-over matches here. It’d be silly not to pick them as favorites."
India kicked off their T20 Asia Cup campaign with flying colors, grabbing two wins in the group stage. They crushed UAE by nine wickets and then outplayed rivals Pakistan by seven wickets while chasing in both games. These victories have put India in a strong position early on.
Trott also had kind words for India’s skipper Suryakumar Yadav, saying the captaincy brings even more pressure on the star batter. "Suryakumar is an amazing player, and now as captain, he’s got that extra responsibility on his plate," Trott added. "I’m excited to watch how he handles the leadership in T20 cricket."
Afghanistan’s all-rounder Gulbadin Naib joined the praise party, labeling Team India as the best in Asia and even the world. Naib, who’s shared the IPL dressing room with Indian stars, loves picking up tips from them. "India is the top team in Asia and globally—you learn so much from these guys," Naib told .
Meanwhile, the Asia Cup action heated up with Bangladesh pulling off a thrilling eight-run win against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. Bangladesh’s spinners shone bright, and pacers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman nailed the death overs to seal the deal.
This victory keeps Bangladesh in second place in Group B with two wins and one loss, totaling four points. Sri Lanka leads the pack with two straight wins. Afghanistan, with one win and one loss, sits third. Their next match against Sri Lanka could shake things up—if Afghanistan wins, all three teams will have two victories each, and net run rate will decide who advances in the T20 Asia Cup.
