Team India celebrated a thrilling victory in the T20 Asia Cup Final, beating Pakistan by five wickets in Dubai. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) rewarded the champions and their support staff with a whopping Rs 21 crores in prize money.
Tilak Varma starred with an unbeaten 69 off 53 balls, including three fours and four sixes. His key partnerships with Sanju Samson (24 off 21) and Shivam Dube (33 off 22) guided India to their second T20I Asia Cup title. This win marks India’s ninth Asia Cup trophy overall, counting the ODI versions too.
Under captain Suryakumar Yadav, Team India keeps dominating T20 cricket. They’ve won 18 matches, lost just two, and tied two since Suryakumar took over.
BCCI shared the excitement on X (formerly Twitter): “3 blows. 0 response. Asia Cup Champions. Message delivered. 21 crores prize money for the team and support staff.”
In the final on Sunday, India won the toss and chose to bowl first. Pakistan started strong with an 84-run opening stand. Sahibzada Farhan smashed 57 off 38 balls (four fours, three sixes), while Fakhar Zaman made 46 off 35 (two fours, two sixes). But Indian spinners turned the game around. Kuldeep Yadav took 4 wickets for 30 runs, Varun Chakravarthy grabbed 2 for 30, and Jasprit Bumrah sealed it with 2 for 25. Pakistan collapsed from 113 for 1 to 146 all out in 19.1 overs.
Chasing 147, India stumbled early at 20 for 3 after Faheem Ashraf’s burst of 3 for 29. But Tilak steadied the ship with a 57-run stand alongside Samson. Then, Dube joined in with some big hits to keep Pakistan at bay. Rookie Rinku Singh, in his first Asia Cup game, finished it off with the winning runs on the first ball he faced.
This India vs Pakistan clash delivered edge-of-your-seat cricket, boosting the hype around the Asia Cup 2023.
