Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, has made it clear: “Love Jihad has no place in our state, and anyone involved will face the strictest punishment.” He shared these strong words after Gandhinagar Police pulled off a daring rescue mission in Assam.
The story starts with a 20-year-old woman from Gujarat who got lured into a relationship by a man from Assam. The accused, Soif Abdul Manaf Uddin, worked as a housekeeping supervisor at a hotel in Gandhinagar. He trapped her in a love affair and whisked her away to Assam without her family’s knowledge.
Tracking him wasn’t easy. Uddin had put his phone on flight mode and only used WiFi calls, which made technical surveillance tough. But the Gandhinagar Police’s Local Crime Branch (LCB) and Sector-7 teams didn’t give up. They combined smart tech analysis with tips from human intelligence to hunt him down. After searching multiple districts in Assam, they found him in the Murazar area of Hojai district. The police safely rescued the woman and reunited her with her family.
Sanghavi praised the police team for their quick and effective work. “Gujarat is a peaceful state, and we won’t tolerate love jihad or any tricks to deceive women using fake identities,” he said. “Criminals like this will face the full force of the law.”
The operation was led by DIG Virendra Singh Yadav and SP Ravi Teja Vasamsetti. On the ground, Deputy SP Divyaprakash Gohil, Sub-Inspector U.M. Gadhvi, and Police Inspector J.J. Gadhvi guided the teams. Police officials say this success sends a strong message: Gujarat’s law enforcement stands firm in protecting young women and stopping crimes like love jihad from spreading.
For context, “love jihad” is a term often used in Gujarat by leaders and groups to describe cases where men from one religion, especially Muslim men, allegedly lure women from another, like Hindu women, into relationships or marriage to convert them. The state cracked down hard in 2021 by updating the Gujarat Freedom of Religion Act, which now makes conversions through marriage, force, or deceit a serious crime. This case highlights how seriously Gujarat takes women’s safety and fights against such deceptions.
