Dreams come true when they get support: Mithali Raj on India’s historic World Cup crown

New Delhi, Nov 3 – Former India captain Mithali Raj celebrated her country’s first Women’s World Cup win and thanked the BCCI and ICC for the drive that brought women’s cricket to the spotlight.

After the trophy‑giving ceremony, the Indian squad ran a victory lap that saw legends Mithali, Jhulan Goswami and Anjum Chopra join the young players in a heart‑warming moment. Harmanpreet Kaur and her teammates handed the gleaming cup to the former legends, creating an emotional scene for the whole team.

Mithali, who retired three years ago after the 2022 World Cup, said she was thrilled to see her team carry forward the legacy. In a post on X, she praised the support of the BCCI and ICC. “Give wings to a dream and it can fly,” she wrote, noting the four‑year plan that lifted women’s cricket.

She highlighted key BCCI initiatives: equal match fees, the Women’s Premier League, a robust domestic structure, India A tours and a growing U‑19 pathway. “When the ICC hosted the World Cup at home and raised the prize pool to $13.88 M, it showed how far the game has come,” she added.

India’s final victory over South Africa by 52 runs on Sunday night at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai sealed the ICC Women’s World Cup title. The win marked a campaign full of courage, flair and emotion and set a new standard for the future of women’s cricket in India.
