In a thrilling Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal snatched a dramatic late draw against Manchester City on Sunday. Substitute Gabriel Martinelli fired home an injury-time equalizer to rescue a point for the Gunners, keeping their unbeaten run alive.
The match split into two clear halves. Arsenal dominated early possession with nearly 80 percent of the ball in the opening minutes, but Manchester City struck first out of nowhere. Just inside 10 minutes, Erling Haaland slid in the opener during a swift counter-attack. Tijjani Reijnders broke free on the right and fed the Norwegian striker, who coolly slotted it into the corner. It marked the first goal Arsenal conceded from open play all season.
City nearly doubled their lead soon after when Reijnders tested Arsenal keeper David Raya with a low shot that trickled wide. At the other end, the Gunners pushed forward. Mikel Merino almost set up Leandro Trossard with a through ball, but defender Abdukodir Khusanov recovered just in time to block the danger.
Arsenal turned up the heat in the second half, creating more chances. Eberechi Eze and Trossard both saw shots blocked as the home side pressed hard. Manchester City brought on extra defenders to shore up their deep block, and it seemed they might hold on for the win. But with time ticking away, Martinelli changed everything.
After coming on as a sub just 10 minutes earlier, the Brazilian winger raced onto a perfectly lofted pass from Eze over the top. Martinelli took a brilliant touch, then chipped Manchester City keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with a superb lob that nestled under the bar. The Emirates erupted as Arsenal celebrated their hard-fought point against the champions.
