India’s national cricket team has its all‑rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy sidelined for the first three of the five‑game Twenty‑20 (T20I) series after a sudden neck spasm. The 22‑year‑old, still nursing a left quadriceps injury from the second One‑Day International (ODI) in Adelaide, suffered the spasms just before the opening match in Canberra, which stalled his recovery.
India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, gave a quick update to reporters on Wednesday. He said Reddy completed all his practice work – batting, fielding and bowling – and that the coaching staff would assess him later to decide his return. “He did all the work that was needed today,” Morkel told the press. “We’ll find out after the assessment where he stands.”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had issued a statement moments earlier notifying the public that Reddy would miss the first three T20Is. “The all‑rounder’s neck spasms have impacted his recovery and mobility,” the notice added, and that the medical team was monitoring his progress. A final call on his participation in the remaining fixtures will come later.
The series is level at 1‑1 after a rain‑washed opening match and a win by India in the second game, followed by Australia’s equaliser in the third. Both teams now head into the last two contests hoping to secure a series victory.
