Congress issues show cause notices to 15 district presidents for skipping the election review meeting

In Patna on December 2, the Congress party sent disciplinary notices to 15 district presidents for missing a critical review gathering that took place the day before at Sadaqat Ashram. The forum, which was convened to unpack the party’s losses in the recent 2025 Bihar Assembly polls, was presided over by Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Ram. Assam was attended by Congress state‑in‑charge Krishna Allavaru and veteran MLA Shakeel Ahmed Khan.

All the district leaders were expected to travel to the venue to share insights and highlight internal flaws that contributed to the electoral setback. Yet, despite receiving prior calls and messages via WhatsApp, 15 presidents failed to show up. Party sources say the meeting agenda had been circulated through personal phone lines and social media.

The state unit condemned their absenteeism as a breach of discipline. Nalin Kumar, the party office secretary, delivered show‑cause notices to each of the reluctant officials, demanding an explanation for their absence. The notice warned that further organisational action could follow if the explanations proved unsatisfactory.

The Congress leadership has signalled that it will enforce accountability as part of its wider plan to rebuild and strengthen the party in Bihar. The 15 district presidents named in the notices are: Pramod Singh Patel (West Champaran), Shashi Bhushan Rai (East Champaran), Shah Ahmed (Araria), Subodh Mandal (Madhubani), Sunil Yadav (Katihar), Gurjeet Singh (Patna Rural‑2), Uday Chandravanshi (Executive President, Patna Rural‑1), Raj Narayan Gupta (Executive President, Supaul), Parvez Alam (Bhagalpur), Anil Kumar Singh (Jamui), Manoj Pandey (Buxar), Uday Manjhi (Executive President, Gaya), Arvind Kumar (Executive President, Lakhisarai), Imran Haq (Executive President, Munger), and Roshan Kumar (Executive President, Sheikhpura).

The meeting held on December 1 marked the party’s first major introspective session after its defeat. Workers at the venue expressed visible frustration, openly challenging senior leaders over ticket allocations and other strategic decisions. Several district presidents seized the moment to criticize the leadership’s assertion that the loss was solely due to vote theft, countering that internal organisational weaknesses played a log‑heavy role.
