24 years, 1 leader, a transformed nation: The Modi era and India’s civilisational turning point

New Delhi, Oct. 7 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has entered his 25th year in elected office, the longest continuous tenure for any Indian leader in more than two decades. He began as chief minister of Gujarat in 2001, and has led India as prime minister since 2014. His time in power has been marked by sweeping changes that many countries spend generations trying to achieve.

A quick look at India today shows more than steady progress. The country is being reshaped in structure, mindset, and national pride. A new style of governance—focused on results, held accountable, and open to citizen input—has emerged under Modi’s leadership, a shift that has re‑imagined how the government operates and how people see their government’s role.

CEO Akhilesh Mishra of the BlueKraft Digital Foundation highlighted five clear shifts that illustrate the Modi era’s impact.

  1. Accountability through data – Earlier ministries set vague targets and tracked the outcome only loosely. Since 2014, dashboards, real‑time monitoring, and GPS‑tagged inspections have become the norm. Schemes such as Swachh Bharat, Jal Jeevan Mission, and PM Awas Yojana now get live updates and performance audits, turning governance from paperwork into measurable results.

  2. A change in mindset – India’s old “chalta hai” (it’ll work out) attitude has largely given way to “badal saka hai” (things can change). The promise that India would become the world’s third‑largest economy by 2043 is now projected to happen in 2027, almost 20 years ahead of schedule. This shift from fatalism to ambition is felt in everyday life.

  3. Proactive security policy – After 26/11, India’s responses were cautious. Today it has taken a firm stand with operations like Balakot and surgical strikes, sending a clear message that India will not remain a silent victim. The country’s confidence on the international stage has grown sharply.

  4. Mission‑mode governance – Before 2014 many projects stalled because ministries asked, “How will this ever happen?” Now the question is, “How can it not happen?” The Jan Dhan Yojana, launched in 2014, grew from 58 % to over 90 % bank‑account penetration in just a year, creating more than 500 million accounts— the world’s largest network. 370 was repealed and the Ram Mandir is under construction, showing the government’s resolve and deadline‑focused planning.

  5. A national belief in “our time” – Modi’s era has sparked a cross‑generational conviction that India’s moment is now. From standing up to China at Galwan to chasing Chandrayaan‑3 on the Moon’s south pole, India acts with confidence. This belief fuels a startup surge, higher stock‑market valuations, Olympic medals, and an expanding digital public infrastructure.

Beyond numbers and policies, Modi’s legacy is also cultural. The new Parliament building, the G20 cultural diplomacy and projects such as the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor and the Ram Mandir emphasize a national pride that blends heritage with modernity. The result is a civilisational renaissance that keeps India’s traditions alive while embracing progress.

Overall, Narendra Modi’s 25‑year rule has not just turned the government into a results‑driven machine; it has reshaped how Indians think, act, and see their future. Whether from policy reforms to self‑confidence on the world stage, India appears ready to lead in the 21st century.
