India’s top women’s hockey teams are gearing up for an exciting showdown in New Delhi. The Hockey India Senior Women Inter-Department National Championship 2025 kicks off Saturday at Shivaji Stadium and runs through October 4. This national event brings together 12 strong squads, split into four pools for some fierce competition.
In Pool A, expect intense action from Railway Sports Promotion Board, Tamil Nadu Police, and Central Civil Services Cultural & Sports. Pool B features Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Central Reserve Police Force, and Sports Authority of Gujarat – Hockey Academy. Over in Pool C, Central Board of Direct Taxes will battle Sashastra Seema Bal and UCO Bank Women’s Hockey Academy. Finally, Pool D pits Sports Authority of India against Union Bank of India and Services Sports Control Board.
Teams will face off in round-robin matches within their pools during the league stage. The winners from each pool advance to the semifinals on October 3, with the grand final and third-place playoff set for October 4. Women’s hockey fans won’t want to miss this chance to see rising stars shine.
The tournament opens with a bang: Sports Authority of India takes on Services Sports Control Board, followed by Central Board of Direct Taxes clashing with UCO Bank Women’s Hockey Academy. Railway Sports Promotion Board meets Central Civil Services Cultural & Sports, and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. faces Sports Authority of Gujarat – Hockey Academy.
Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey is pumped about the event. “These Inter-Department National Championships are a key part of our calendar,” he said. “They give players a platform to show their skills. Many of our top women’s hockey talents have grown through this tournament, and it’s thrilling to watch young players mix it up with veterans. I’m sure this edition will deliver top-notch hockey.”
Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh shares the excitement. “This marks the fifth edition, and it’s only gotten better each year,” he noted. “The competition level shows the growing depth in women’s hockey in India. It offers new talent valuable exposure and highlights how departments support the sport. We’re eager for another great tournament in New Delhi.”
