West Indies players need self-belief to make a comeback in the 2nd Test against India: Richardson

New Delhi – Former West Indies captain Richie Richardson said the team must bring self‑belief if they want to turn things around in the upcoming Test against India, scheduled to begin at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday.
The West Indies were a world‑class force in the 1980s and 1990s, winning two consecutive World Cups. Since then their fortunes have slipped and the side has struggled to regain its former dominance.
Last week, the West Indies were bowled out for an innings defeat in Ahmedabad, losing by 140 runs in just three days. The second Test in New Delhi offers a chance for redemption.
“Self‑belief is key,” Richardson told on the sidelines of the Cricket West Indies Golf Day. “You have to go in and play as if you can. Confidence matters for every player; otherwise, the struggle starts before the game even begins.”
He added that while India is a tough and confident opponent, cricket is about preparation, analysis and executing plans on the day. “Anyone can perform well if they dig deep,” Richardson said.
Richardson is in India as part of a promotional tour during the West Indies’ visit. He spoke about the partnership with local sponsors and the value of giving back to the cricket community that has supported them over the years. “We’re here to thank our partners and meet the fans, because we owe them a return,” he said.
The West Indies face their familiar rivals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, hoping a fresh dose of confidence can reignite their historic cricket spirit.
