PM Modi gifts Russian edition of Bhagavad Gita to President Putin, says its teachings inspire millions

In New Delhi on December 4, Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed a Russian‑translated copy of the Bhagavad Gita to President Vladimir Putin, saying the ancient text inspires people worldwide.
After the meeting, Modi posted a photo on X showing the exchange, with Putin arriving earlier that evening.
He added in the tweet, “Presented a copy of the Gita in Russian to President Putin. The teachings of the Gita give inspiration to millions across the world.”
The picture captures both leaders holding the book together as Modi gives it to the Russian president.

Modi’s note highlighted the Gita’s universal appeal—a point he has made on many global stages. The Russian edition is part of several translated versions that have been widely read by scholars, spiritual seekers, and cultural enthusiasts.

The Prime Minister’s official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg was decorated with India‑Russia flags and special lighting that evening, as Modi welcomed Putin inside for a private dinner following the Russian leader’s arrival for a two‑day state visit.

The two leaders shared a tight bond, traveling together in the same car from the airport after Modi greeted Putin on the tarmac—a gesture underscoring the longstanding friendship and mutual respect between the nations.

Modi said he looks forward to further discussions later that evening and on Friday.
He posted on X, “Delighted to welcome my friend, President Putin, to India. Looking forward to our interactions later this evening and tomorrow. India‑Russia friendship is a time‑tested one that has greatly benefited our people,” along with photos of the pair.

They embraced warmly, greeted each other, and then returned to the airport together. They also briefly watched and applauded a cultural performance during the welcome ceremony.
