The Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) is set to revolutionize golf in India by bringing together male and female golfers to compete on the same stage. The exciting new golf league kicks off on September 10 in Chandigarh, marking a big step forward for the sport in the country. Former Indian cricket star Yuvraj Singh officially launched the IGPL Tour in New Delhi on Thursday, sharing his vision for the tournament.
Yuvraj highlighted the importance of supporting young golfers and making the sport more accessible. “Golfers face many challenges—they need to perform well to earn money and pay bills,” he said. “IGPL aims to give young players a platform where they don’t have to worry about financial struggles. Our focus on grassroots development is crucial. Think of IGPL like the IPL—an exciting league that can transform golf in India just like IPL changed cricket.”
The league promises fast-paced, competitive matches with both men and women playing together, promoting equality in sports. Yuvraj expressed hope that this approach will boost India’s golf scene and inspire more players to shine on the international stage, including upcoming Olympics. “We want to see our golfers win medals and make India proud,” he added.
In addition to launching the tour, IGPL announced a partnership with the Asian Tour, the top professional golf body in Asia. This partnership allows IGPL players to compete alongside Asia’s best golfers at a major Asian Tour event scheduled for November at Kensville Golf & Country Club in India.

To build a strong foundation for Indian golf, IGPL has partnered with the Indian Golf Union (IGU) as its official umbrella partner. The league also aims to promote women’s golf by collaborating with the Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI). This partnership gives female athletes more opportunities and exposure, helping to grow women’s golf in India.
Overall, IGPL is stepping up as a dynamic platform to nurture India’s golfing talent, support Olympic ambitions, and make golf more inclusive and popular across the country.
