Indian cricket star Jasprit Bumrah fired back at former player Mohammed Kaif over comments about his bowling role in the ongoing Asia Cup. The spat kicked off after Kaif questioned captain Suryakumar Yadav’s decision to let Bumrah bowl three straight overs right at the start, during the powerplay phase.
Kaif took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts. He pointed out that under previous skipper Rohit Sharma, Bumrah typically bowled one over in the powerplay (like over 1), one in the middle overs (around over 13), and two at the death (overs 17 and 19). Kaif argued that Bumrah likes to bowl when his body is fully warmed up to dodge injuries. He warned that using Bumrah for just one over in the remaining 14 could give batters a breather—especially risky against top teams in a World Cup.
In this Asia Cup, though, Suryakumar switched things up. Bumrah opened with a three-over burst in the powerplay, leaving him with only one over later. Under Rohit, Bumrah usually got no more than two powerplay overs, plus one in the middle and two at the end for those crucial wickets.
Bumrah didn’t hold back. He replied to Kaif’s post with a simple, sharp message: “Inaccurate before inaccurate again” followed by a thumbs-up emoji. The exchange has fans buzzing about team tactics and Bumrah’s heavy workload.
So far in the tournament, Bumrah’s powerplay spells have mixed results: he picked up 1 wicket for 19 runs against UAE, 1 for 16 against Pakistan, went wicketless for 34 in the Super Four clash with Pakistan, and snared 1 for 17 versus Bangladesh in another Super Four game.
Overall, Bumrah hasn’t been at his peak this Asia Cup. He’s claimed five wickets across four matches, with an average of 22 runs per wicket and an economy rate of 7.33. His best haul? 2 for 18.
India stays unbeaten and has already locked in a spot in the finals. Next up, they face Sri Lanka on Friday in Dubai, aiming to keep their perfect record intact before the big finale. Cricket fans are watching closely as the team fine-tunes strategies for tougher battles ahead.
