Team India shone bright at the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Badminton Competition 2025, grabbing one gold and three silver medals in a thrilling showdown in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event ran from September 16 to 20 at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara, where athletes from 10 countries battled it out.
India’s squad impressed everyone with their skills and determination, as shared by Special Olympics Bharat. Leading the charge was Chanvi Sharma, who clinched the gold in women’s singles and teamed up with Sujita Sukumaran for a silver in women’s doubles. Ankit Dalal also delivered big, securing silver in men’s singles and another in men’s doubles alongside Amal Biju.
At the closing ceremony, India’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, BN Reddy, met the athletes to offer congratulations and best wishes for their next adventures.
Madam President of Special Olympics Bharat couldn’t hide her pride. “We are immensely proud of our athletes for winning medals at the Asia Pacific Badminton Competition in Malaysia,” she said in a statement. “Their courage, resilience, and team spirit truly embody the essence of Special Olympics. I extend heartfelt congratulations to the entire contingent and thank the Indian Ambassador to Malaysia and the Indian diaspora for their invaluable support. May this achievement inspire many more across India.”
The competition featured 80 players total—63 athletes and 17 unified partners—from those 10 nations, making it a true celebration of inclusive sports.
