Indian junior men’s hockey team arrives in Chennai for World Cup 2025

Chennai, Nov 15 – India’s junior men’s hockey team arrived in Chennai on Saturday, ready to launch the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025. The world‑cup, set in Chennai and Madurai from Nov 28 to Dec 10, will see the two‑time champions head for a title they last won in 2016.

In 2001, the Indian Colts captured their first world championship in Hobart, Australia. They were also runners‑up in 1997 at Milton Keynes. Now the team, coached by former goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, enters Pool B with Chile, Switzerland and Oman.

The squad impressed at the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia, winning silver after a strong tournament run. Earlier this year they sharpened their skills at the Four Nations Tournament in Berlin and toured Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. Training camps in Bengaluru have kept the players fire‑ready.

“We’re excited to be in Chennai for such a prestigious tournament,” said captain Rohit. “We’ve trained for months and are optimistic to compete against the best teams. Tamil Nadu has a great hockey culture; we hope the fans will fill the stadium to support us.”

Teammate Amir Ali added, “Playing the World Cup on home soil is an honour. India won the tournament as hosts almost a decade ago, and we’ll strive to repeat that success. The team is confident after our preparation, and we’ll stay focused on the challenges ahead.”

India will open the competition against Chile on Nov 28. They’ll face Oman the next day and Switzerland on Dec 2 as part of their pool matches. The Indian junior team aims to capture the coveted title, harnessing the home‑ground advantage and the spirit of Tamil Nadu’s hockey tradition.
