India is gearing up for its biggest para-sports event yet: the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships. From September 27 to October 5, athletes will light up the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the capital, drawing crowds to cheer on incredible stories of grit and determination.

Excitement is building fast, with sports icons and celebrities throwing their full support behind Team India. Cricket legends like VVS Laxman and Harbhajan Singh are fired up, calling it a moment of national pride. Laxman shared an Instagram reel urging fans: “It’s not just a championship—it’s India pride. Don’t miss the roar at JLN Stadium.” Harbhajan echoed that in a video, saying, “It’s time to write history. Come on India, Chak de!”

Tennis star Sania Mirza posted on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting India’s milestone as only the fourth Asian nation to host this grand event: “Smash it, India! #WPAC2025 #CheerforIndia.” Shooter Abhinav Bindra, India’s first individual Olympic gold medalist, praised the upgrades and the human spirit on display, wishing luck to the 70-plus Indian para athletes. Commentator Harsha Bhogle called it a chance to see para superstars up close, while IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders rallied with, “Fueled by grit, backed by a billion! Go well, champions 🇮🇳💙.” Even Bollywood’s Anil Kapoor and teams from hockey, football, shooting, rugby, other IPL franchises, and the Pro Kabaddi League are joining the cheer.

This massive gathering brings over 2,200 athletes from 104 countries to compete in 186 medal events on India’s first world-class Mondo track. The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) notes it’s a sign of the country’s growing depth in para-sports and push for inclusivity. Leading the charge is a record 73-member Indian squad, captained by Paralympic javelin gold medalist Sumit Antil. They’re building on India’s strong showing of 29 medals at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

The stadium got a major facelift thanks to PCI, including a para-friendly gym and new long jump pits to make everything accessible and top-notch. Prasar Bharati will broadcast the action live, so fans everywhere can tune in. The newly designed medals honor resilience and unity, marking a huge step for Indian para-athletics on the global stage. If you’re in Delhi, grab your spot—history is about to unfold.
