Civil Aviation Minister reviews on-ground situation at Delhi ATC towers after tech glitch

Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu rushed to Delhi Airport after a glitch in the air‑traffic control system caused flight delays and cancellations on Friday. He checked the situation at the Delhi Air Navigation Services (ANS) Centre near the runway and met with key officials – MoCA Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha, Airports Authority of India (AAI) Chairman Vipin Kumar, and senior staff.

The minister ordered the Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) chief to send extra technical teams to speed up repairs. To keep passengers from waiting too long, he also told ATC commanders to station more staff on the control tower so they could hand‑manage flights while the faulty Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) was offline.

From the beginning, AAI, ANS and ECIL crews worked around the clock to locate and fix the problem. ECIL quickly added personnel, and the ATC team ran flights manually, keeping safety and traffic flow at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) intact. By the afternoon of November 8, the system was back online and no flights were cancelled that day, the ministry said.

After the outage, Naidu visited the ATC tower, praised the night‑shift teams, and directed a detailed root‑cause analysis to prevent future glitches. He also asked officials to plan upgrades such as extra backup servers to strengthen Delhi Airport’s air‑traffic control operations.

The Airports Authority of India announced that the technical fault in the ATC system had been resolved and that normal flight operations resumed after the overnight storm.
