Former Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev has sent his best wishes to Team India ahead of their thrilling Asia Cup 2025 clash against Pakistan. The high-stakes India vs Pakistan match is set for September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, marking the first time the two teams face off in an international game since the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.
Tensions were high leading up to this India-Pakistan cricket rivalry, with opposition parties calling for a boycott. But the Indian government gave the green light for Team India to compete in multi-nation tournaments like the Asia Cup, while sticking to its policy of skipping bilateral series with Pakistan.
Kapil Dev, the 1983 World Cup-winning captain, kept it simple and spirited when speaking to the media about the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup game. “We wish India wins… Good luck! Let Team India win. The bottom line is that all the players represent India,” he said, firing up fans for the big showdown.
Just last month in August, the Centre updated its sports policy on Indian athletes facing Pakistani opponents. Now, India can join multinational events like the Asia Cup 2025, but bilateral matches remain off the table to maintain a firm stance.
Team India kicked off the tournament on a high note, smashing a nine-wicket win over the UAE in their opener on Wednesday. After the Pakistan fixture, they’ll take on Oman in their final group stage match on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.
The Asia Cup action heats up next with the Super 4 stage from September 20 to 26, where the top two teams from each group advance. If India tops Group A, all their Super 4 games stay in Dubai. Finish second? They’ll play one in Abu Dhabi and two in Dubai.
