Bengaluru’s Altiore Sports, The Oval, buzzed with excitement on Wednesday as the Karnataka Men’s T20 Cricket Series for the Blind 2025 got underway. Four teams drew inspiration from the state’s storied history, representing the Kadambas, Hoysalas, Chalukyas, and Wadiyars dynasties. This blind cricket tournament highlights Karnataka’s cultural heritage while championing inclusive sports for visually impaired players.
The opening day delivered nail-biting action in two high-stakes matches. In the first clash, the Karnataka Hoysalas dominated the Karnataka Kadambas with a solid 42-run win. Captain Harish S fired on all cylinders, smashing 68 runs off 55 balls to help his team reach 197 for 6 in 20 overs. The Kadambas put up a fight, thanks to Hemanth’s gritty unbeaten 44, but they crumbled to 155 for 9 under the pressure.
The second game saw the Karnataka Wadiyars overpower the Karnataka Chalukyas by 59 runs. Krishnamurthy S sparked the innings with a brisk 36 off 26 balls, and key partnerships down the order pushed the Wadiyars to 176 for 9. Their bowlers and fielders stayed sharp, restricting the Chalukyas to just 117 all out in a clinical display.
The league phase runs through September 24 and 25, setting up a third-place playoff on the morning of September 26. The grand finale kicks off at 1:00 PM that day, where the top two teams will vie for the blind cricket championship title.
The Karnataka Cricket Association for the Blind (KCAB) teams up with the Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled and the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) to organize the event. Their goal? Boost inclusivity and showcase top-tier sporting talent among the visually impaired.
This series builds on India’s strong run in blind cricket. Back in February 2025, India clinched the Men’s Bilateral T20 Series against Bangladesh 4-1, though Bangladesh grabbed an 11-run win in the finale after India had surged to a 4-0 lead. Then in May, India swept the second Samarth Championship against South Africa 5-0 at Bengaluru’s Sai Krishnan Cricket Stadium, proving their dominance in international blind cricket.
