Dwayne Johnson credits Brendan Fraser for ‘launching’ his acting career: I’ll love him for life
Mumbai, Dec 10 – Dwayne Johnson, the Hollywood superstar, took to Instagram to thank lifelong friend and fellow actor Brendan Fraser for helping launch his acting career back in 2001 with The Mummy Returns.
In his post, Johnson praised Fraser’s faith in him and the risk he took: “This man helped launch my acting career. Believed in me, and took a risk. I’ll love and respect him for life and I’ll always be in his corner rooting him on.”
The Mummy Returns, directed by Stephen Sommers, marked Johnson’s transition from pro wrestling to a mainstream screen presence. It’s the sequel to the 1999 hit The Mummy and the second entry in the series, featuring Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Oded Fehr, and Patricia Velásquez who reprise their roles.
The plot follows cult followers resurrecting the mummified Egyptian high priest Imhotep to battle the Scorpion King and his supernatural forces, with an Egyptologist caught in the ensuing chaos.
After this film came a 2002 prequel, The Scorpion King, and a 2008 sequel, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Johnson’s first leading role was indeed in The Scorpion King.
He has since built a diverse resume, appearing in family‑friendly titles such as The Game Plan, Race to Witch Mountain, Tooth Fairy, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Jumanji: The Next Level, and Jungle Cruise, as well as action flicks like Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Hercules, Skyscraper, San Adrias, and Rampage.
Johnson also delivered a comedic punch in Get Smart, Central Intelligence, Baywatch, and Red Notice. His portrayal of Luke Hobbs, starting with Fast Five, helped propel the Fast & Furious franchise to top‑grossing status.
Beyond live action, he voiced Maui in Disney’s animated Moana and its sequel, and is set to reprise the role in a forthcoming live‑action remake.
