India’s boxing legend Mary Kom revealed a break-in at her home in Faridabad, Haryana, where thieves made off with her TV and other valuables. The six-time world champion shared the news in an interview with on September 27, saying she’s already alerted the local police.
“I’m not at home right now, so I’ll get the full details when I arrive,” Mary Kom told . “Neighbors let me know it happened on September 24. CCTV footage clearly shows the thieves grabbing the TV and some other stuff from my Faridabad house.”
This incident adds a tough twist to the life of the 41-year-old boxer, who’s inspired millions with her incredible career. Mary Kom made history as the first Indian woman to win Olympic bronze in boxing at the 2012 London Games. She’s also a trailblazer in women’s boxing, grabbing six world titles—the most ever for any boxer—and five Asian championships.
Her journey started young: At just 18, she burst onto the scene at the first-ever women’s world boxing championships in Scranton, Pennsylvania, reaching the 48kg final and hinting at the greatness to come. She became the first Indian to claim gold at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, dominating editions in 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2010.
After welcoming twins in 2008, Mary Kom paused her career but bounced back stronger. Following her third child in 2013, she took another break before returning to top form. In 2018, she sealed her sixth world title in Delhi with a 5-0 victory over Ukraine’s Hanna Okhota. Just a year later, she added her eighth world medal overall, cementing her status as India’s boxing queen and a symbol of grit and resilience.
