Sindh Flood Alert: River Levels Stay High, Army Steps Up Relief Efforts
In Sindh, Pakistan, river levels remain dangerously high today, keeping authorities on high alert. The Pakistan Army is gearing up to help local teams if floods worsen, as reported by The Express Tribune.
The provincial rain and flood emergency monitoring cell shared the latest updates. Major barrages across Sindh face rising waters. At Guddu Barrage, water inflow hits 544,658 cusecs, with outflow at 514,051 cusecs—marking a high flood situation. Sukkur Barrage deals with a medium flood, inflow at 470,580 cusecs. Kotri Barrage sees a low flood with 262,509 cusecs, and Panjnad Barrage balances inflow and outflow at 575,195 cusecs each.
Army personnel and civil administration officials are busy checking flood-prone spots in districts like Dadu, Jamshoro, Sukkur, and Guddu. They strengthen embankments and take other steps to prevent breaches. Plus, the Pakistan Army runs medical camps in these areas, providing free treatment to locals and ready for any emergencies.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon gave a shoutout to PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his hands-on support to flood-hit communities. "Bilawal’s leadership brings real hope," Memon said. He stressed that the PPP won’t stop until full rehabilitation happens, especially since agriculture took the biggest hit from these Sindh floods.
Memon welcomed the federal government’s move to declare environmental and farm emergencies. But he slammed the delays in the Benazir Income Support Programme’s promised relief package from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Bilawal has visited flood-affected areas in Punjab and Sindh, met with provincial leaders to boost farmer recovery plans, and called for quick federal action to aid those impacted.
