Tamil Nadu athletes dominated the final day of Kadal Kondattam, India’s top ocean sports festival, sweeping all medals in kitesurfing and sea swimming categories. After grabbing 21 medals the day before, they clinched every one of the 12 available on Sunday, wrapping up the three-day event in style at Thoothukudi’s beautiful Muthu Nagar beach.
The action-packed day included Kitesurfing Men Open, Sea Swimming for Men and Women Open, and Sub-Junior events. Winners not only took home shiny medals but also cash prizes. Aqua Outback organized the festival, led by former National Kiteboarding Champion Arjun Motha, with backing from Tamil Nadu Tourism and the state government.
Beyond the races, the closing day buzzed with fun cultural vibes. Local bands rocked the stage with live performances, beach volleyball games kept the energy high, and traditional Silambam stick martial arts wowed the crowd. Food lovers dug into stalls serving tasty Tamil Nadu coastal dishes, making it a hit with everyone watching.
In kitesurfing, Karuppusamy stole the show with a strong win, followed by Murugesh in second and Dylan Fernandez in third. All three train at the Aqua Outback Academy, proving how this spot is turning out top ocean sports talent in Tamil Nadu.
Sea swimming brought more thrills. F Infant Franson powered through the Men’s Open 200m race for gold, with Vijay and Vishwanathan V K earning silver and bronze. D Annie led the Women’s Open 200m, beating Vedika Sachin and K Shrutika for first place. In the Sub-Junior 100m, M. Shashanth, T. Kanish, and R. Kabilan grabbed the top spots.
At the closing ceremony, Arjun Motha shared his excitement: “Huge congrats to all winners and participants who pushed through tough ocean conditions over three days. It’s never easy out there, but their grit was inspiring. I’m thrilled my team pulled this off—big thanks to Tamil Nadu Tourism, the government, and sponsors. Events like Kadal Kondattam can boost livelihoods in Tamil Nadu and India by growing adventure sports and supporting young athletes.”
Kadal Kondattam 2025 was way more than just sports—it celebrated Tamil Nadu’s coastal culture and lifestyle. Over the days, attendees enjoyed a Coastal Food Festival with local flavors, relaxing Sunset Yoga sessions, calisthenics and strength workshops, beach clean-up drives, and eye-opening ocean awareness talks. This mix of adventure, fun, and eco-focus left a big mark on everyone.
The festival aimed to supercharge the local economy too, drawing tourists, creating jobs, and getting Tamil Nadu’s fishing communities excited about ocean sports. It highlighted ocean conservation and sustainable coastal living, making it a win for the environment and the people.
