In a big step for Indian sports, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, along with officials from the Swimming Federation of India (SFI), launched the mascot Jalveer and the official logo for the upcoming 11th Asian Aquatics Championship in Ahmedabad. The event will take place from September 28 to October 11, 2025, and will mark the first time this major continental tournament is hosted in India.
High-level officials, including SFI Secretary General Monal Chokshi and Senior Vice President Virendra Nanavati, were present at the launch event. The championship will be held at Ahmedabad’s newly built Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, a state-of-the-art facility designed to meet Olympic standards. Over 30 countries from across Asia are expected to participate in swimming, diving, water polo, and artistic swimming.
The logo for the 2025 Asian Aquatics Championship beautifully combines India’s rich culture with sports excellence. It features the Asiatic Lion, a symbol of Gujarat, rendered in vibrant colors that reflect India’s national pride. Inside the lion’s mane are icons representing the four aquatic sports, conveying energy, motion, and inclusiveness. The logo’s bold typography emphasizes unity and the global significance of the event.
Mansukh Mandaviya shared his excitement about hosting this important event in India for the first time. He praised the collaborative efforts of the government of Gujarat and the Swimming Federation of India, highlighting the opportunity it offers Indian athletes to shine on an Asian stage. “This championship is a historic milestone for Indian aquatics,” he said.
With over 1,000 athletes expected to arrive in Gujarat, Indian swimmers will get a chance to perform in front of their home crowd and qualify for the 2026 Asian Games. RN Jayaprakash of the SFI expressed gratitude to the Sports Authority of Gujarat and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for their support. He also noted that the event is a key step toward building India’s reputation as a top sports nation.
Secretary General Monal Chokshi emphasized that hosting the Asian Aquatics Championship will boost the popularity of water sports in India and help develop future athletes. He also pointed out that Ahmedabad’s successful hosting of this event aligns with Gujarat’s long-term goal of hosting global sporting events, including the 2036 Olympics.
For Gujarat and India, hosting such a prestigious tournament is more than just a sports achievement—it’s a statement of capability and ambition. Ahmedabad is positioning itself as a strong contender to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2036 Olympic Games. The state has invested heavily in sports infrastructure, including the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave and Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, to meet international standards and foster a sustainable sports ecosystem for future generations.
This event marks a major step forward for Indian sports, showcasing the country’s growing ability to host world-class competitions and inspiring young athletes across the nation.
